As we say so long to the longest day of the year, we recognize that it’s easy to lose track of time and find ourselves staying up later than usual. Do you do that too?  If you do you are not alone, 36% of Americans report feeling groggy due to insufficient sleep, with summer exacerbating this feeling.  Factors like extended daylight hours and scorching temperatures above 90 degrees can throw off your internal clock (fondly known as your circadian rhythm)—and leave you feeling depleted.

You may even find that you are eating dinner at 8:00 at night thinking it was 5:00 somewhere.  Not to worry it happens to the best of us! Balancing summer fun with getting enough sleep can be tricky, but no need to worry—we have some tips to help you out 😊

At Home Tips:

  • Maintain a Consistent Sleep Schedule: Try to stick to your usual sleep routine, even with the sun shining late. Use eye covers or blackout shades to keep your body clock in sync and support melatonin production naturally.
  • Digital Detox Before Bed: Give yourself at least an hour without screens before bedtime. This practice enhances melatonin production and improves your ability to fall asleep and stay asleep throughout the night.
  • Keep Your Bedroom Cool: Lower temperatures at night can aid sleep quality. This tip is especially beneficial for menopausal or peri-menopausal women who may experience temperature fluctuations during the night. Try incorporating cooling sheets or pillowcases.


Find Moments to Relax: Summer can be hectic with family gatherings, sports events, and work retreats. Take time to unwind—whether it’s curling up with a book in a hammock, floating in the pool, or even releasing stress on the pickleball court or the golf course!
